Fast-growing credit operation continues to attract top talent
Cairn Capital, the fast-growing specialist asset manager and solution provider, is pleased to announce the appointment of James Starky as Chief Legal Officer for the group and as a member of its Executive Management Team.
He was previously with Banque AIG, the European subsidiary of AIG Financial Products Corp., where he was the Associate General Counsel in charge of the legal group for Europe and Asia covering all derivatives, capital markets and structured finance business.
Prior to Banque AIG, James was a partner at US law firm Cadwalader Wickersham and Taft for two and a half years as part of the group setting up its London office. James joined Cadwaladers from UK law firm Freshfields where he worked from 1986 and was made a partner in 1992.
James will assume responsibility for all legal aspects of the Cairn group including the structuring and advisory business, asset management and the launch of its Credit Opportunities Fund.
“James is one of the top structured finance lawyers in the industry. We are delighted with this appointment,” said Paul Campbell, Director of Cairn Capital, who worked with James at Banque AIG. “James’s experience as senior counsel at a major structured finance participant following periods as a partner at top US and UK law firms is unparalleled. To have the benefit of his experience is a huge advantage for the strategic development of the group as well as in any transaction in which we are involved.”
Cairn is also pleased to announce the appointment of Luke Venables as Head of Middle Office and Operations. He joins next month from Goldman Sachs, where he performed the same role for its European Credit Derivatives business.
“A strong and efficient operations group is essential, particularly for the Credit Opportunities Fund we are launching,” said David Littlewood, Director of Cairn Capital. “We are very pleased to be attracting someone of Luke’s talents and credentials to guide the development of the top quality infrastructure we are continuing to build.”
